New York, first of all, is the BEST. I had so much fun there, even though it is such a crazy place. We got there really late the first night and just went outside for a walk. Our hotel was right near Times Square, so we were out there around eleven o'clock and it was just so cool. So many people are out selling all this stuff on the sidewalks, like briefcases of watches and sunglasses and cds, shirts, etc. That was one thing that I found really strange. The next day we went out to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. It was freaking cold! We didn't even get off the boat at Ellis Island and then just went back to the hotel. That night we went to go see a Broadway play. My mom really wanted to see Beauty and the Beast, but it was already sold out. We had a choice between Annie Get Your Gun and Les Miserables. I wanted to go see the last, and so did Kat, so we went. I swear, that has got to be one of the longest plays in history. It was really nice though, and I enjoyed it a whole bunch. My dad bought me a program to mark the occasion. The next day was Thanksgiving, and we went to go see the parade. That was so very neato. There were all of the balloons, bands, and dancers, floats, and other people. I got up to the front by the end of the parade, so I could watch the last few minutes with an unobstructed view. My dad got most of it on the video camera too. I forget what else we did that day...oh yes, we went to Chinatown. It wasn't as good as the Chinatown in Boston, but very interesting nonetheless. We also saw Macy's and all of the stores around there, but it was late so they were closed. I remember that we tried to go to the Empire State Building, but the wait was around two hours to get up to the top. No way man. So then by that time we were hungry and wanted supper, but we didn't have anywhere to eat. We went to this popular restauraunt, but again, it was a long wait. So, we asked a cop where to go, and he sent us to a street chock full of restauraunts. We ended up eating at this Spanish restauraunt late at night. Everyone there was so very nice, and we took our time eating for about three hours or so. It was just so cozy and comfortable with lots of good food. There were men to the left of us speaking Spanish, and people to the right with little children who spoke Japanese. It was warm in there, and I got to eat raviolies. Granted, it was not Thanksgiving dinner traditionally speaking, but it was still a very nice experience. Friday we went to Rockafella (sp?) Center and just looked around. My mom wanted to go on an NBC tour, but the tickets were sold out. We went to Macy's, which was absolutely mobbed, and FAO, which was also mobbed. We just kind of went around and looked at stuff...I don't really remember a lot about that day except that at night we went to go and see The Grinch. I hated the movie but the theatre was the best. It had 25 theatres and five floors...truly a dream come true. Plus, right across the street there was a Sanrio Surprises store. I crashed that night and got up on Saturday, just to do a few things. Then we went home.
I did do a few nice things while I was in New York for other people. I was down in the lobby making a phone call to Kerri and some English man was trying to use a phone card with the phone, except it wasn't working. I helped him figure out the card, and he was very greatful to me. He told me thanks a lot, and that I was very 'clever'. That was one nice thing. Then down in the train station I helped this lady and her granddaughter use the machine to get the tokens for the train. She was really confused, and I gave her directions on how to get to Fifth Avenue, what stop to get off at, and such. I had only been there for a few days, but I was getting to know my way around! The train system there is basically the same, but it has a heck of a lot of more lines and stops, and conncections and stuff. But the streets are all numbered, so it's easy to get where you want to go most of the time. All in all a very good experience.
I can't stand to be back at school after that. The past three days I have been nudging in my chair all day long. I can't stand to sit down on the time. It's so...confining. I've been so very busy since I got back too; it seems everyone is especially interested in loading up the work. I have to start making resolutions to get help when I need it, 'cos I put it off all of the time and I don't really care about it. But I better start caring. We are doing this thing in English where we have to be like Benjamin Franklin and try to make ourselves better by keeping up virtues, much like he did in a notebook. I thought it would be easy, but it is a lot harder than I thought. So far I have done more bad things than good. I am so very sick of writing and typeing and doing stuff for school. *sigh* Christmas is almost here, and that is the one time of year that I feel the most joy. That and New Year's. I don't know why, but it's just like my time of new beginnings and such. Well, I've got work to do, I'm out.
